College Soccer News - Men's National Team Of The Week - Week Ending November 8, 2020

The College Soccer News National Team of the Week recognizes top performers during the week. Only seven men's college soccer contests took place during the final week of regular fall season play in the Atlantic Coast and Sun Belt Conferences. The ACC tournamet begins on Sunday, November 15. The Sun Belt Tournament begins on Friday, November 13.  

Kyle Holcomb

Holcomb who is from San Marcos, California contributed the helper on teammate Isaiah Parente's goal and converted a header after receiving a cross from Machop Chol in Wake Forest's 2-0 win over NC State. He has scored a total of five goals to date in the fall season.

Lynn who is from St. Louis, Missouri out of Chamide College Preparatory scored three times to help power the Irish past Louisville 4-1. Lynn has a total of six goals to date in the fall season. 

Giovanni Montesdeoca

Montesdeoca who is from Dallas, Texas returned to the Tar Heel lineup this year after missing the 2019 seaosn due to injury. His header proved to be the game-winner in UNC's 2-0 victory over Duke. 

Jacob Labovitz

Labovitz who is from Great Falls, Virginia came up big once again for the Hokies when he scored from within the box after receiving a cross from Kyle McDowell to give Virginia Tech the edge they needed to defeat Notre Dame 1-0

Parente who hails from Medina, Ohio returned to the Demon Deacon lineup after a two game absence and netted what proved to be the game-winner in Wake Forest's 2-0 on the road win over NC State. The Demon Deacons improve to 7-1-0 with a 5-1-0 mark in ACC play.

The Durham, North Carolina native displayed his quickness and touch on the ball when he set up teammate Giovanni Montesdeoca's goal with a nice move off the dribble and a picture perfect cross. The Tar Heels topped Duke 2-0 to improve to 3-1-2.

Virginia Tech needed a big play in order to leave Charlottesville with a win and the sophomore midfielder from Roanoke provided it when he sent a blast into the far post from eight yards outside the box to score the lone goal of the evening in the Hokies 1-0 win over rival Virginia. The Hokies improve to 3-1-2.

The Englishman had a productive evening netting  the game-winning goal and contributing the assist on teammate Noah Glorioso's goal to help power the Chanticleers to a 3-0 win over Georgia State on the road. Coastal Carolina improves to 5-1-0 and will face Georgia Southern again on Friday, November 13 in the Sun Belt Tournament.

Proctor who is from Leeds, England earned a repeat spot on the College Soccer News Team of the Week when he sent a shot into the back of the frame from outside the box in the 86th minute of play to give the Panthers a hard fought 1-0 win over Central Arkansas. Georgia State is 9-2-0 and will face Central Arkansas again on Friday, November 13 in the Sun Belt Tourney.

Tyson was solid between the pipes anchoring a Georgia State defense that shutout Central Arkansas 1-0. Central Arkansas had topped the Panthers 2-0 when the two teams faced each other earlier in the fall season.

Swaneveld who hails from The Netherlands anchored a Virginia Tech defense that shutout Notre Dame 1-0 and Virginia 1-0 on the road. 

College Soccer News - Women's National Team Of The Week - Week Ending November 8, 2020

The College Soccer News Team of the Week recognizes individuals who played a key role in the success that their teams had during the week.   There were no games this week in women's ACC play but plenty of action took place in the SEC, Big 12, and Sun Belt Conferences. The ACC Tournament is slated to get underway on Tuesday, November 10. The SEC tournament will begin on Friday, November 13.

Rhodes scored twice and contributed the helper on teammate Hannah Richardson's goal to play a key role in Kentucky's 3-1 win over Florida. The win was Kentucky's first over the Gators since 2014. Kentucky improves to 1-4-3.

Collins who is from Houston, Texas  created the space and angle within the box that she needed to send a rocket into the far upper corner of the goal to give TCU the edge they needed to top a very good West Virginia team to claim the program's first-ever Big 12 Conference title. TCU is 8-0-1.

Sodoma was a force on the offensive side of the ball for the Red Wolves who advanced past Appalachian State and  Georgia State before losing to the University of South Alabama 2-1 in the championship game of the Sun Belt Conference Tourney.

Davis is a goal scorer. This week she drove a shot into the top shelf of the goal from 25 yards out after receiving a pass from teammate Amanda Porter to propel the Red Raiders to a 1-0 a win over rival Texas. Davis now has 12 career goals. Texas Tech is 2-4-2 and will close out the fall season on Friday, November 13 at Kansas State.

Powell came through in the clutch scoring with 50 seconds remaining in regulation with an assist from Kenady Adams in Iowa State's 1-1 tie on the road with Kansas. The contest halted a six match KU win streak against Iowa State. Iowa State concludes fall play with a 2-6-1 record.

Mack alertly controlled and sent a rebound into the lower left corner of the goal in overtime to enable Baylor to squeak past Oklahoma 1-0. Baylor finishes fall play with a 3-3-3 record.

Cross who is from Scotland scored twice with a little over five minutes remaining in regulation to enable South Alabama to come from a goal down to defeat a very good Arkansas State team 2-1 in the Sun Belt Tournament championship game. The Jaguars conclude fall play with a 10-3-1 record.

Stephens who is from Argyle, Texas out of Denton Guyer High School scored twice to  propel the Trojans past Georgia Southern 2-1. She also contributed a goal in Little Rocks' 2-2 double overtime tie with South Alabama. South Alabama then prevailed in a penalty kick  to advance in the Sun Belt Tournament.

Lopez who hails from Mexico City, Mexico scored the game-winner from just inside the penalty box in Texas A and M's 2-1 win over LSU on senior night. The Aggies improve to 6-1-0 and will host Auburn on Monday, November 9 in their final fall regular season contest.

French who is from Franklin, Tennessee sent a header into the back of the frame out of a corner kick put in play by Claudia Dipasupil and was part of a solid Volunteer backline that topped South Carolina 1-0 on senior night in Knoxville. Tennessee improves to 4-3-1.

Alvarado who hails from El Paso, Texas was rock solid in goal for TCU with a three save evening in the Horned Frogs win over West Virginia. The shutout was her seventh of the fall season.

The number of contests taking place this week was less than in past weeks due to several cancellations but the action remained brisk with key conference contests taking place. The College Soccer News Team of the Week recogizes individual performers on both sides of the ball who played a key role in the success that their teams enjoyed during the week.

Labovitz sent a shot into the lower left corner of the goal after receiving a pass from Kristo Strickler and sent a blast into the back of the frame in overtime to lead the Hokies to a 2-1 win on the road over Louisville in an ACC contest.

Smith drove a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner of the net out of a free kick from just outside the box and controlled and sent a loose ball in the box into the back of the frame to play a key role in Clemson's 3-3 tie with North Carolina.

Harris is a playmaker and difference maker for the Demon Deacons. He made the run he needed to make to be in the right place at the right time to find the back of the net in Wake Forest's 2-0 win over Clemson. Takuma Suzuki and Machop Chol assisted on the goal.

Herrera scored with less than three minutes remaining in regulation with helpers from midfielder Milo Garvanian and back Matt Constant in UNC's come from behind 3-3 tie on the road with Clemson.

Fearnley tallied his third game-winning goal of the fall season when he found the back of the net for Georgia State just 44 seconds into their contest with Coastal Carolina. Georgia State topped the Chanticleers 2-0 to improve to 8-2-0.

Pedregosa was a key part of a determined Wolfpack backline along with Pepe Garcia, Jamie Smith and Kendall Edwards that secured a hard fought 0-0 tie in Chapel Hill with rival North Carolina.

Proctor scored and put in a solid full shift on the defensive side of the ball in the Panthers 2-0 win over previously undefeated Coastal Carolina. The contest was Georgia State's fifth shutout so far this year.

Suarez earns a spot on the CSN Team of the Week for the second week in a row. His header with an assist from teammates Kyosuke Kubota and Pablo Azcona gave the Bears the edge they needed to top Georgia Southern 1-0. He was also part of a solid Bear defense.

Ueland's converted a penalty kick and was part of a stout Virginia defense that gutted out a 1-0 win over Syracuse. A young Virginia team improves to 2-2-1.

Benalcazar scored Wake Forest's first goal and was part of a bend but don't break Demon Deacon defense that contained an explosive Clemson attack to secure a 2-0 win over the Tigers at Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem. Wake Forest is now 6-1-1.

Rando did the things he needed to do in goal to give the Cavaliers the opportunity to win. He made four saves and faced fourteen shot attempts in Virginia's 1-0 win over Syracuse.

It was a week of close contests in which the difference between a win and a loss was very small in many games. The College Soccer News Team of the Week recognizes players on both sides of the ball who were difference makers during the week.

Powell who is from Haymarket, Virginia  scored twice including the game-winning goal in overtime and contributed a helper on teammate Emily Gray's goal in Virginia Tech's 4-3 win over Wake Forest. She also contribued an assist on Gray's goal in Virginia Tech's 3-0 win over Boston College. The Hokies are now 4-7-0.

Goins who is from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma assisted on teammate Anna Podojil's goal and scored what proved to be the game-winner in Arkansas' 2-1 win over a very good Auburn team. Arkansas improves to 6-1-0.

Pezzino who hails from  from Grand Island, New York made the most of her time on the pitch with two clutch goals that twice enabled Ole Miss to come back from a goal down in their 4-3 win over the Georgia Bulldogs. Channing Foster netted the game-winner for Ole Miss out of a free kick in the 90th minute of the match.

Ordonez provided an assist on defender Claire Constant's goal in Virginia's 2-1 win over Boston College. Ordonez and fellow freshman Lia Godfrey also had a two goal and one helper day to help power the Cavaliers past Syracuse 5-3. Virginia improves to 7-2-1.

The FSU freshman from St. Ann, Jamaica utilized her speed and touch on the ball to score twice on a beautiful fall day in Tallahassee to help power the Seminoles past Clemson 2-0. FSU also topped Duke 1-0 earlier in the week to finish regular season play with a perfect 8-0-0 record.

Ferrer-vanGinkel who hails from Barcelona, Spain used her touch on the ball and quickness to find the back of the net twice in West Virginia's 2-1 win over a very good Kansas team. The Mountaineers improve to 7-1-0 and will face TCU on Friday, November 6 with the Big 12 regular season title on the line.

Entz who is from Newton, Kansas scored twice to led Kansas State to a 2-0 win on the road over Iowa State. Her first goal was set up by a nice pass from defender Shae Turner. Entz's second goal was a left footed strike from sixteen yards out. The Wildcats are now 2-6-0 with two wins to date in Big 12 Conference play.

Dipasupil who is from Upper Saddle River, New Jersey sent a left footer into the back of the frame from 25 yards out and provided the helper on teammate Jaida Thomas' game-winner to help the Vols top Florida 2-1 in Gainesville. Tennessee improves to 3-3-1.

Dowell who is from Longview, Texas came up big for the Cowgirls with a nice move off the dribble into the middle of the box that created the space that she needed to send a left footer into the near post with 54 seconds remaining in the first overtime period. It was her second golden goal of the year.

Lucio who is from Wichita, Kansas gave the Trojans the edge they needed to top ULM 2-1 when she drove a shot into the top left shelf of the goal from just inside the box with three minutes remaining in the first overtime period. Shamburger who hails from Atlanta, Georgia was a factor on both sides of the ball helping  Vanderbilt build their attack from the back and contributing to a defensive effort that shutout LSU 2-0 in Baton Rouge. Vanderbilt is 4-3-0.

Tivnan who is from Easton, Massachusetts provided the game-winning goal when she drove a header into the back of the frame out of a corner kick put in play by freshman defender Lindsay Brick in Syracue's 1-0 win over Miami. She also scored with an assist from Brick in the Orange's 5-3 loss to Virginia.

Madden who is from San Diego, California had ten saves in goal to anchor a steady Longhorn defense that shutout I-35 rival Baylor 1-0. Madden recorded her fifth solo shutout. Junior forward Cameron Brooks contributed the game-winner for Texas. The Longhorns improve to 4-4-0.
